So yesterday they announce the new Doctor Who companion. I’m sure she’s a good actress and all, but do we really need another young, white cis female as companion? There are so many other better choices.
I also wondered why Moffat didn’t reach into the pool of past characters and/or actors to pull the new companion?
And isn’t it about time we shook things up a bit? Let’s get some non-humans in there or Americans or folks out of puberty or men only or people of color or non-straight characters or people from different time periods than our present day.

Normally I am right there with this Tumblr’s stand against cats being where they do not belong. However, the caption for this picture is VERY WRONG. That is not a robot, that is a DALEK. And Daleks are not for performing human tasks, they are for destroying all things not Dalek. So, in this case, the cat is being extremely brave and heroic by destroying the Dalek before it can destroy us. You go, cat. You get that Dalek and you get him good.

Elisabeth Sladen 1946 - 2011
Known to millions of fans as the actress who played Sarah Jane Smith first on Doctor Who, then on her own show (most recently). She passed away from cancer yesterday. She was and is a very popular companion, and I remember before the above episode aired many of my Who-loving friends were super excited to see her return to the show. Having watched a few of the old serials, I now know why. Sarah Jane kicks butt, as did Lis Sladen.
Goodbye to a great actress, and thus to the great character she played. Both will be missed.
Goodbye to Elisabeth Sladen, the ultimate companion IMHO. You will be missed.
